SBR is the most economical general-purpose rubber in the catalogue — the same elastomer most tires are made of. For a shim, a pad, a debris guard or a water gasket that never faces oil or intense sun, paying more buys you nothing: SBR simply gets the job done.
Laseo laser-cuts it in 1/16 and 1/8 in. (60 durometer) from your drawing, with no tooling charges. For tightly bolted water flanges, we also offer the classic red rubber gasket grade — an 80-durometer red SBR in 1/8 in. that resists extrusion under heavy compression.
Key properties
Economy: the best price per square foot of all our rubbers — perfect for wear parts you replace on a schedule.
Abrasion and impact: a legacy of its tire heritage, SBR shrugs off rubbing, scraping and impacts.
Water and air: seals cold and warm water and low-pressure compressed air well; stays flexible in the cold (-20°F to +180°F).
Two hardnesses: 60 Shore A for standard gaskets and pads; 80 Shore A (red gasket grade, -4°F to +176°F) when a joint must stay dimensionally stable under serious torque.
Its limits: oils, fuels, ozone and UV degrade it. Permanent outdoor part → EPDM; petroleum contact → nitrile.

Design tips
Solid 60-duro gasket: 20-30% compression. 80-duro gasket grade: 15-20% is enough, it crushes less.
Keep a minimum of 0.035 in. between holes and edges for tear-free torquing.
Torn between SBR and neoprene? If the part sees oil or lives outside, neoprene is worth the difference; otherwise SBR wins.
