Steel checker plate is the industrial flooring standard: rugged, rigid, and much more affordable than its aluminum or stainless versions. Its raised diamond pattern delivers reliable grip under boots and wheels alike, even when wet or oily.

Laseo fiber laser cuts it to your dimensions in four thicknesses — 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, and up to 3/8 in for heavy loads. It's the material of choice for trailer floors, outdoor stair treads, factory walkways, dock thresholds, and machinery repairs. Bending, tapping, and powder coating available online.

Material: structural mild steel (44W), weldable and machinable with standard shop equipment.
Rigidity: at equal thickness, steel deflects three times less than aluminum — longer spans with fewer supports.
Abrasion resistance: takes cart traffic, chains, and tool impacts without wearing out prematurely.
Economy: the best strength-to-price ratio of the three checker plates Laseo offers.
To plan for: steel rusts if left unprotected. Powder coating (available online) or a floor epoxy paint solves it for outdoor use.

Design Best Practices
The nominal thickness excludes the pattern: a 1/4 in plate has a 0.250 in base, and the raised pattern adds about 0.060 in.
Bending is available up to 1/4 in; 3/8 in can be cut and tapped but not bent.
Weight to consider: about 4.9 lb/ft² in 1/8 in and 15.3 lb/ft² in 3/8 in. For a part handled often, the aluminum version weighs a third as much; for a corrosive or food environment, see the stainless 304 version.
