Mild Steel (A1008 / A1011 / 44W)

Sought after for its excellent cost/strength ratio, formability, and weldability, mild steel is widely used across many applications. Our sheets are fiber laser cut for clean edges and precise geometries—ideal for functional parts as well as chassis, enclosures, brackets, and welded sub-assemblies.

We offer three grades by thickness: A1008 cold-rolled (≤18 gauge) with fine surface and tight dimensions; A1011 hot-rolled (16-10 gauge) for cost/formability balance; and 44W hot-rolled (≥3/16″) high strength for structural applications. All with standard Mill finish, ready to paint, weld, or assemble.

Grades Available by Thickness

A1008 Cold Rolled (≤18 gauge): smooth surface and tight tolerances; excellent for light stamping, controlled bending, thin panels, and parts requiring uniform surface for painting or coating.

A1011 Hot Rolled (16-10 gauge): best cost/performance balance for medium thicknesses; good forming and weldability, ideal for enclosures, brackets, frames, and components where surface appearance is secondary.

44W Hot Rolled (≥3/16″): superior mechanical strength for structural applications; heavy bases, reinforced plates, robust frames, and load-bearing elements requiring bending and load resistance.

Process, Machinability, and Assembly

Cutting: high-precision fiber laser with high repeatability (typical tolerance ±0.005" on 2D profiles). Drilling, counterboring, and tapping available in post-machining for all grades.

Forming: excellent malleability for A1008 and A1011; provide internal radii suitable for thickness. 44W bends up to 1/4″, beyond which rigidity limits forming.

Welding: excellent MIG/TIG/arc weldability for all grades; degrease before welding. Mill surface may be slightly oxidized; clean weld zones for optimal results.

Finish: Mill surface accepts paint directly after cleaning; sand or grind for demanding finishes. In aggressive environment, consider galvanizing or thick protective coating.

Holding tabs: small tabs may be left to ensure precision during cutting; removal by light deburring or grinding depending on thickness.

Common Applications

Automotive: thin panels (A1008), chassis components (A1011), suspension supports (44W), and reinforced fittings.

Equipment and machines: light plates (A1008/A1011), heavy machine bases (44W), flanges, couplings, frames, and welded assemblies.

Construction and structure: light frames (A1011), structural reinforcements (44W), angles, channels, crossmembers, and load-bearing framing elements.

Electromechanical/HVAC: thin enclosures (A1008), medium cabinets (A1011), control panels, equipment chassis, ducts, and support structures.

Furniture and fixtures: furniture components (A1008/A1011), shelves, racks, wall supports, and commercial display structures.

Design Tips

Provide internal radii rather than sharp corners to improve cut quality and fatigue life after bending, particularly for A1011 and 44W.

Choose A1008 for appearance and tight dimensions; A1011 for balanced cost/strength ratio; 44W for structural loads and maximum mechanical strength.

Outdoors, protect cut edges and areas with suitable primer/paint or treat by galvanizing when exposure is severe or continuous.
