Lamacoid

Lamacoid plates are two-layer acrylic laminates designed for laser engraving: a thin color cap over a contrasting core. At 1/16" (≈1.6 mm), they offer a good stiffness/weight balance, drill easily, and mount without complication. The matte or slightly satin surface limits reflections and fingerprints.

The material provides sharp contrast, dimensional stability, and common cleaning product resistance—suited for indoor environments and sheltered outdoor locations. Available with or without 3M 468MP adhesive for "peel-and-stick" mounting on smooth, high-surface-energy substrates. Ideal for equipment plates, legends, valve/pipe IDs, control panels, nameplates, and safety/wayfinding signage.

What is Lamacoid?

Two-layer acrylic laminate optimized for high contrast: Engraving ablates the top layer and reveals the core color, producing durable characters and symbols without ink or paint. The 1/16" thickness suits plates mounted on equipment, cabinets, doors, panels, and walls.

Surface, Readability, and Durability

High contrast: Color-on-color construction for readable text in small sizes and fine lines (icons, borders, QR/bar codes).

Finish: Generally matte/satin to reduce glare; clean with soapy water or isopropyl alcohol (avoid strong solvents).

Environment: Stable indoors; performs well in sheltered outdoor locations. Prolonged direct UV, aggressive chemicals, or abrasion can reduce lifespan—provide mechanical shields or protected locations as needed.

Mounting Options

Without adhesive (mechanical fastening): Screws, rivets, spacers, or panel clips; small pilot holes limit edge cracking.

3M 468MP adhesive: High-performance acrylic transfer adhesive for smooth, high-surface-energy substrates (painted/coated metals, bare metals, rigid plastics like ABS/PC). Strong shear/peel resistance, thin bond line, clean edges. Best practices: Clean, dry surface, room-temperature application with uniform pressure, curing time to reach final strength. Less suited for rough, powder-textured surfaces, or low-surface-energy plastics without primer.

Process and Tolerance

CO₂ laser cutting/engraving with repeatable precision (typical tolerance ~±0.009" on 2D profiles). Visible face in preview is treated as top during cutting.

Common Applications

Equipment and machinery: Legend plates, control faceplates, selector/switch labels, lock-out tags, guard and door IDs.

Buildings/electrical: Room/door IDs, safety and hazard signs, pipe/valve identification, electrical panels, racks, and cabinets.

Product identification: Nameplates, serial plates, asset labels, rating plates, and instruction placards.

Wayfinding and compliance: Directional arrows, regulatory notices, and code-required labels.

Design Tips

Use corner radii to reduce chipping; maintain sufficient stroke width for small fonts; aim for legible sizes at viewing distance.

For adhesive mounting of large plates, include relief holes/slots for thermal expansion and to facilitate alignment.

In impact/abrasion zones, prefer mechanical fastening and/or protective framing to increase longevity.
