Acrylic (Plexiglass)

Clear, rigid, and lightweight, PMMA acrylic delivers clean parts for glazing, covers, signs, lettering, and displays. CO₂ laser cutting produces clean edges and CNC machining enables functional holes, counterbores, and pockets.

Good optical transparency and dimensional stability; simple maintenance with soapy water. Plan for protection against point impacts and avoid aggressive solvents to prevent stress cracking.

Key Characteristics

Finish: Smooth surfaces protected by film; clean edges in laser cutting.

Cut orientation: Visible face in rendering is treated as top; machined with protective film in place when relevant.

Process: CO₂ laser cutting and/or CNC machining (typical tolerance ±0.010").

Holding tabs: Small tabs may remain at perimeter; remove with light deburring.

Service temperature: Approx. −40°C to 80°C continuous depending on application.

Chemical compatibility: Clean with soapy water; avoid acetone, strong alcohol, MEK, chlorinated/aromatic solvents.

Outdoor/UV: Excellent UV and weather resistance; suitable for outdoor signage.

Common Applications

Signs, lettering, illuminated cabinet faces.

Clear glazing, covers, protective windows.

Displays, holders, guards, and shields.

Decorative plates, diffusers, light panels.

Design Best Practices

Provide functional clearances and slightly oversized holes to limit stresses.

Round internal corners rather than sharp angles to reduce stress concentration.

Recommended assemblies: Screws + large washers, spacers, acrylic adhesive tapes; specific acrylic adhesives when required.

Avoid localized impacts and prolonged solvent exposure; handle with protective film in place until installation.
